Incidence Etiology and Treatment of Alveolar Osteitis

چکیده
Alveolar osteitis is the most common post operative sequel to tooth extraction. It occurs despite the most exacting operative technique, aseptic procedure and regardless of the ability of surgeons. Various packing materials are available for topical treatment of alveolar osteitis. Purpose: The present study was conducted to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of Zinc Oxide Eugenol dressing, alvogyl dressing and platelet rich fibrin dressing in the treatment of dry socket. Materials: This study comprised 60 patients of dry socket in the span of 5 years. The patients were randomly divided into three groups on the basis of treatments: Group A (zinc oxide eugenol group), Group B (alvogyl group), and Group C (platelet rich fibrin group). The clinical progress was noted at 1 and 7 day of treatment. Results: Socket healing was faster and better in group C than in group A and B but symptomatic pain relief was faster in group A and group B. Conclusion: According to this study PRF might be a superior treatment of choice in the management of dry socket.

Factors affecting incidence of dry socket: a prospective community-based study.
Dry socket, or alveolar osteitis, can occur because of the removal of teeth. No clear etiology has been acknowledged; however, numerous risk factors have been proposed and tested. We report on the results of a prospective, multicenter study of the incidence and factors affecting the occurrence of alveolar osteitis at the Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne and Community Dental Clinics in Melbour...

Alveolar Osteitis is the most common post-surgical complication following extraction of impacted 3rd molar teeth. Various risk factors have been mentioned for this complication including gender, age, and amount of trauma during extraction, difficulty of surgery, inappropriate irrigation, infection, smoking, and oral contraceptive use. The aim of the current study was to evaluate the incidence o...

Alveolar osteitis (dry socket) continues to be a frequent sequela of third molar surgery. Chlorhexidine 0.12% used as an oral rinse has been reported to reduce the incidence of dry socket. This study compares the effectiveness of 0.12% chlorhexidine used as a preoperative rinse and immediate postextraction irrigant with 1) similarly used 0.05% cetylpyridium, preoperative chlorhexidine rinse and...

PURPOSE Chlorhexidine is an antimicrobial agent used in the prevention of postextraction alveolar osteitis, tooth decay, and periodontal diseases. There are various forms of chlorhexidine application. The most extensively studied is one that uses the rinse as the form of application. Recently, a bioadhesive gel form has become available. Its main advantage is that it prolongs the bioavailabilit...
